State of Pharmacy Automation survey to affect their purchasing decisions. Here is how one institution is using this data to plan for the future.

Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, is having their residents create a report benchmarking their automation against data found in PP&P’s 2009 State of Pharmacy Automation issue. This process allows Brookdale to not only familiarize themselves with current trends in pharmacy automation, but also to quantify their current use of automation, and forecast future needs.

By generating this report, Brookdale expects to detail how they fit against each profile in the survey results, in terms of current and planned automation adoption. The report will also include a section outlining their current challenges and the direction they expect to take to address those challenges. Ultimately, the pharmacy will use the report to plan for future automation purchases. Based on their results compared with PP&P’s State of Pharmacy Automation data, they will create a list of vendors to meet with at the ASHP Mid-year meeting, as well as a list of appropriate CE programs to attend, in order to make recommendations as to what automation should be implemented next.

This is exactly the kind of due diligence process we encourage at PP&P. We loved hearing from Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center, and we want to hear more from you! We rely on reader feedback to help us provide the best and most prescient information possible. We encourage you to let us know how we can help you. If our articles or market research have helped you accomplish a project or complete a goal, we want to know about it. As is often the case, your challenges are shared by other pharmacies across the country, and what is good for the goose is good for the gander.

So, as ASHP Mid-year approaches, take the time to review your practice and think about where you want to be this time next year, or in the next five years. Pharmacy Purchasing & Products can help you realize your goals. Be sure to visit us at ASHP Mid-year at booth #705!

Sincerely,
