Every well-run organization is goal oriented—with individual departments establishing specific targets for success. Of course, achieving goals is a journey that unfolds through careful and deliberate steps outlined and executed over time. Perhaps the most challenging of these steps is the first one: identifying target areas for improvement and deciding which are a priority for the year ahead.
Ideally, establishing annual objectives is a collaborative effort targeting enhanced patient and staff safety, efficiency, financial outcomes, and/or compliance. Encourage feedback from staff spanning all disciplines to share creative solutions and opportunities for improvement. Similarly, provide ample opportunities for each team member to identify and access resources toward growth.
