While most facilities (86%) restrict access to the HD compounding areas to authorized personnel only, there has been no improvement in this metric over the past 3 years. It is important to recognize that access restriction does not need to be electronic—it can be as simple as hanging signage that denotes the HD compounding areas as authorized access only.

For both sterile and nonsterile compounding, a decreasing number of facilities are venting internally. Likewise, more facilities are moving to dedicated external ventilation for HD compounding, be it sterile or nonsterile.

While most facilities (80%) are able to track compounded HDs by lot number for recall purposes, this metric has also been stagnant for the past 4 years. As such, one out of every five facilities does not have the capability to track HDs by lot number during a recall.
