Implementation of IV workflow systems continues to grow with 45% of all facilities now utilizing this technology and a notable 65% of hospitals with 400+ beds enjoying the added safety of bar code scanning, video capture, and EHR integration in the compounding process. This growth will continue over the near term as utilization of IV workflow systems is expected to become a majority practice across facilities of all sizes within the next 2 years.

While IV workflow systems garner a 98% satisfaction rate, just one quarter of users deem their vendor to be excellent, suggesting there is room for further improvement in these systems.


Looking ahead, 28% of those currently without IV workflow management are planning to adopt this technology with mid- and large-sized facilities planning implementations at particularly high rates.


BD, Baxter, and Omnicell are receiving strong consideration from those pharmacy directors looking to implement IV workflow systems. The other category includes those facilities looking to utilize the functionality in their EHR system to provide IV workflow oversight.
