While adoptions remain concentrated among the largest facilities, compounding robot users laud these closed systems for the protection they provide to compounding staff as well as the consistency with which they ensure accuracy and sterility. There is a strong focus on optimizing this technology by adding additional units and operating on additional shifts. Workflows vary among users; nevertheless, most facilities dedicate up to 1.5 FTEs to oversee the robots while shifting up to 20% of their compounding to the robots.

While adoptions of compounding robots have doubled over the past decade, this technology is still only utilized by a select group of facilities.

The benefits of robotic compounding are yet to be enjoyed by small and mid-sized facilities as adoptions remain concentrated in those facilities with at least 400 beds.

Omnicell, Arxium, and Apoteca lead this marketplace.

In a ringing endorsement of this automation, many users have purchased additional robots. Currently, 38% of all compounding robot adopters are operating multiple units.

For the first time, a majority of compounding robot users are operating this technology on multiple shifts this year.

The number of FTEs dedicated to running robotic compounding per shift varies among users, with most facilities assigning up to 1.5 FTEs to these tasks.
