Maximizing cleanroom efficiency while simultaneously ensuring USP compliance is a key focus for pharmacy leaders. Stick built construction remains the most popular approach for new cleanroom builds, followed by modular hardwall cleanrooms. With the impending enforcement of the USP chapters, many facilities currently operating without a cleanroom or with a cleanroom that is more than 5 years old are planning to update their facilities.
Cleanroom installations continue to trend upward. The vast majority of facilities currently compound in a cleanroom suite encompassing an anteroom with buffer room(s) that have a dedicated HEPA filtration system.
The number of facilities utilizing an HVAC system that is 100% dedicated to the cleanroom suite continues to increase; nevertheless, more than a third of facilities’ cleanrooms share their HVAC system with other spaces.
With the exception of those facilities compounding fewer than 100 CSPs per day, the use of cleanroom suites with an anteroom and buffer room(s) is nearly ubiquitous.
