Reflecting pharmacy’s concerted effort to achieve compliance to both USP <797> and USP <800>, almost two-thirds of all health systems are currently compounding in new cleanrooms (ie, less than 5 years old). Cleanroom installations are expected to continue apace with most facilities opting for stick-built or modular hardwall construction.
With the ongoing push to comply with USP regulations, there is a continuing focus on upgrading cleanroom operations. As a result, most facilities are operating in a new cleanroom complex; 64% of all cleanrooms have been installed within the past 5 years.
Most facilities opt for standard construction or modular hardwall cleanroom installations; open architecture rooms are dwindling in popularity.
Among those hospital pharmacies currently operating without a cleanroom or with a cleanroom that is more than 5 years old, 31% are planning to install a new cleanroom. An additional 14% are awaiting finalization of USP <797> and <800> before embarking on a new installation.
