Gray Market
While gray market purchasing remains rare, it does warrant our attention as it has yet to be completely eradicated. An anathema to most pharmacies, when it does occur, it is most likely to be undertaken by the smallest facilities (ie, fewer than 100 beds) with the least purchasing power. Just over four out of every 10 facilities have officially codified their position on gray market purchasing, with the vast majority forbidding it outright.
Gray market purchasing remains rare, with only 13% of health system pharmacies engaged in the practice this year.
The number of facilities making purchases on the gray market continued its downward trend this year.
Just 41% of facilities have felt the need to establish a written policy addressing gray market purchases and the vast majority of those facilities (82%) forbid such activity.
