In the face of adversity, it can be helpful to compartmentalize certain tasks for the sake of one’s sanity. Though the challenges facing hospital pharmacy are myriad, focusing on the task at hand can be one way to bring priority to the day to day. As drug compounding and IV preparation involves several critical stages, ensuring proper and efficient workflow is certainly a worthwhile compartment on which to focus.

Year in and year out, pharmacy leaders lend their substantial experience to form and shape IV safety practices. Likewise, your participation in our surveys brings these experiences to life and elevates the practice of pharmacy as a whole. We understand that adding one more task to your daily list is not always desirable, but those few moments of your day bring substantial rewards to your own practice in the form of benchmarking, as well as to your fellow pharmacy leaders and the patients they serve.

In considering your efforts to ensure IV safety, are you aware of the current trends in IV workflow adoption? Are you ahead of the curve with compounding verification technologies, or is this an area in need of attention? Thanks to your survey submissions, page 12 of this issue provides insight into current IV compounding developments and valuable benchmarking to motivate continued investment in compounding technologies.

These data only exist if a critical mass of pharmacy leaders does their part in completing PP&P surveys. That said, we want to make it worth your while beyond the professional benefits. With each survey you complete for PP&P, you have a 1 in 300 chance of winning a significant prize.

With best wishes for continued compounding success in 2022,
