Integral to pharmacy practice, efficient and compliant cleanrooms are a key focus for pharmacy leaders. As new installations continue, stick-built cleanrooms remain the most popular, followed by modular hardwall units. It is notable that most pharmacy directors are moving forward with plans to upgrade their compounding facilities.
For the third year in a row, new cleanroom installations grew despite the difficulty of bringing vendors into the facility; 65% of facilities are now utilizing a cleanroom that was installed within the past 5 years.
Standard construction and modular hardwall are the most popular cleanroom installations.
Among those hospital pharmacies currently operating without a cleanroom, or with a cleanroom that is more than 5 years old, 34% are planning to install a new cleanroom. An additional 13% are awaiting finalization of USP <797> and <800> before embarking on a new installation.
