Pharmacy is intrinsic to the successful implementation of smart pumps, from product selection and database development to implementation training and reporting. The widespread adoption (84% of hospitals utilize smart pumps) is a testament to the impact this technology has on patient safety. Looking forward, almost half of the facilities that have yet to adopt smart pumps plan to do so over the next few years. Smart pump users will continue to focus on improving data transfer capabilities to simplify library uploads and support patient-specific medication orders.
