ROBOT-Rx from Omnicell is a robotic medication dispensing solution that increases efficiency and accuracy in the central pharmacy. Managing 90% or more of a hospital’s non-IV, non-narcotic, patient-specific daily medication volume, ROBOT-Rx helps to prevent medication errors, reduce pharmacy labor, and lower medication inventory. By automating medication storage, selection, return, and restocking functions, ROBOT-Rx eliminates time-consuming tasks, freeing pharmacists to focus on clinical care.

ROBOT-Rx provides a foundation for successful bar code medication administration (BCMA) initiatives, supporting greater control and reducing risk throughout the distribution process. By reducing manual dispensing and checking tasks, ROBOT-Rx delivers substantial workflow efficiencies and optimizes inventory management. ROBOT-Rx lowers the risk of error, with up to 99.9% accuracy; reduces pharmacist verification and technician labor; drives cost down by reducing inventory; minimizes dispensing time, enabling multiple fills per day and multisite filling; supports efficient cabinet restocking; reduces missing, expired, and returned medications; and communicates with third-party systems.

The FastFind Carousel from ARxIUM increases supply chain accuracy through bar code scanning, controls inventory, and reduces shrinkage. Additionally, pharmacies can recover floor space while maximizing storage capacity. The ergonomic design minimizes bending, and the pick-to-light bar leads the user to the correct pick location. User safety is a primary consideration; light curtain technology identifies a user’s presence inside the device, which prevents device movement. The FastFind Carousel offers an OSHA-recommended worktable width, and the software is easy to learn and use.

The German-engineered FastFind Carousel is manufactured in an ISO 9001 factory and includes dual redundant motors. It supports pharmacy operations with expiration date and lot number tracking capabilities, cabinet and pharmacy information system interfaces, STAT order prioritization, and automated cycle count functionality. Batch processing limits carousel rotation to maximize the cabinet and cart-fill processes. ARxIUM’s FastFind carousels are utilized in various pharmacy environments including single sites, multisites and hub/spoke centralized distribution models.

BoxPicker, an automated pharmacy storage system from Swisslog, features increased storage capacity within the same footprint, allows for multitasking to reduce picking times, and increases efficiency. With multiple operator stations, bottlenecks are reduced, and pharmacies can improve workflow by reserving one station for STAT orders, thus eliminating the need to interrupt scheduled dispenses. The STAT station decreases interruptions by allowing loading and unloading at the same time, and increases productivity by splitting the workload between two people. Because the number of medications exposed during dispense is limited, the opportunity for picking errors is reduced. The BoxPicker also increases staff safety by reducing the number of moving parts to which users are exposed.

When purchasing BoxPicker, Swisslog clients automatically receive the Pharmacy Manager software at no additional cost. As the backbone of Swisslog pharmacy automation solutions, Pharmacy Manager streamlines purchasing by tracking automated as well as non-automated inventory locations, such as static shelving.

From Swisslog Healthcare

The Omnicell Pharmacy Carousel is a vertical storage and dispensing system that automates the medication management process, from order fulfillment and automated cabinet replenishment to patient medication dispensing and restocking. The Pharmacy Carousel increases the accuracy and efficiency of medication dispensing and inventory management, and consolidates and manages medication inventory from multiple locations, including refrigerators and static shelving, supporting a perpetual inventory. Aided by rotating shelves, pick-to-light, bar code scanning, and comprehensive, integrated workflow software, pharmacy technicians are guided to medication storage locations, improving picking speed and accuracy. The versatility and unique functionality enable bar code scanning throughout the medication distribution process, as recommended by ASHP, while enhancing pharmacy productivity. The Pharmacy Carousel reduces picking and restocking errors by 96%, shrinks unit-based cabinet restocking time by 82%, reduces technician training time by 85%, increases inventory turns by up to 65%, improves space efficiency up to 60%, reduces pharmacist checking time through the use of a bar code verification process, and provides device-level optimization to support medication availability.

The Beacon Inventory Management System from TCGRx is designed for any size organization, from large integrated networks to single-site locations. Beacon reports all inventory down to the bottle and pill level, providing a full perpetual inventory at a glance. The system includes extensive dashboards and reports that can help reduce inventory-holding costs, manage generic swaps of equivalent medications, and increase inventory turns while reducing out-dates. Combined with high-density storage solutions, all oral solids, boxes, vials, units of use, bulk bottles, and liquids are stored and tracked in a smaller space than traditional shelving. For outpatient pharmacies, adding DeliverRx Will-Call can speed up delivery to patients at the pick-up window, and guarantees patients receive all of their ordered medications.

Automated Retrieval for Outpatient Operations

The ARS (Automated Retrieval System) from RxMedic is a will-call solution designed to reduce clutter, help improve workflow, and ensure patient safety. The system, which works with most pharmacy management systems, eliminates guesswork and streamlines storing and locating filled prescriptions.

Each ARS bag comes with a unique bar code that is scanned into the pharmacy management system along with the prescription being filled. Bags are placed on special hangers with LED lights, which illuminate to locate the prescription. When a patient comes in to pick up a medication, an employee illuminates the appropriate bag using the software so it can be quickly located.

The return-to-stock feature allows employees to easily identify prescriptions that have not been picked up within a user-defined time period, simplifying a process that helps recoup inventory costs and ultimately improves the bottom line.
