Bar coding syringes and IVs all too often is accomplished through manual methods, which of course introduces the risk for human error while requiring staff to accomplish tedious tasks. There is a strong argument from a safety and efficiency perspective to move to the robotic production of bar coded sterile preparations. While the scale of this automation is not yet attractive to smaller facilities, adoption rates in the largest facilities has reached a notable 20%.
As this technology continues to evolve, new products are also being introduced into the market, providing additional options for those facilities considering incorporating robotics into their compounding practices.
