Pharmacy’s increased focus on managing hazardous pharmaceutical waste is evidenced by the upswing in facilities implementing RCRA-characteristic waste management programs. Five years ago, just 43% of facilities had a program in place and only 52% of facilities utilized RCRA-hazardous containers to manage this waste.

Drawing on PP&P’s survey data, we see vast improvements in the numbers of facilities committed to managing their hazardous medication waste in a compliant manner.
