Recalls of outsourced CSPs continued to abate this year, after surging to record highs in 2013. PP&P survey data demonstrates pharmacy’s expanding confidence in outsourcers’ ability to provide the critical information necessary to conduct recalls.
While more facilities faced recalls related to in-house compounded products than outsourced products, confidence in pharmacy recall systems is strong and that confidence is backed up by performance. Most pharmacies were able to identify all of the patients impacted by in-house compounding recalls. The number of pharmacies able to identify all patients impacted by outsourced compounding recalls is also on the upswing, although it has not yet matched the effectiveness of recall processes for in-house compounded products.
