RCRA-characteristic waste remains challenging for pharmacy to manage, as reflected in PP&P’s annual Going Green Survey of hospital pharmacy waste practices. The survey results demonstrate slight improvements in the number of facilities with a RCRA-characteristic waste program in place: just under three-quarters of all facilities have created a program to identify and track RCRA products, collect and contain resulting waste, and document proper practices. Along with the growing number of waste programs implemented, there has been a simultaneous increase in facilities utilizing RCRA-hazardous containers.
