The results from PP&P’s State of Pharmacy Automation survey (August 2013 issue) demonstrate the value of in-house pharmacy packaging operations as a significant number of medications are still unavailable from the manufacturer in bar coded unit dose. Just as more facilities are moving to implement their own packaging operations to support medication management and safety initiatives, 2D bar code usage is also becoming more common as facilities take advantage of the opportunity to include additional information within each medication label.
