Whether being inspected by the state board of pharmacy, an accreditor, or the state department of health, hospital pharmacies are increasingly likely to be asked about their environmental practices. Notably, most inspections include questions about RCRA compliance, an area that challenges many facilities. Inspectors commonly make recommendations related to pharmaceutical waste practices, while citations remain rare (42% and 7%, respectively).
