Highly rated by pharmacy directors, automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs) retain their popularity in health systems as a tool for simultaneously providing control and access to ordered medications. In fact, just 16% of hospitals nationwide operate without ADCs. These cabinets are also increasingly likely to serve as the primary means for drug dispensing. While profiling all ADCs remains an elusive goal, the number of facilities profiling at least three-quarters of their cabinets increased by 5%, reaching 77% this year. Likewise, those facilities regularly conducting bar code verification during the restocking process also increased by 30% this year. In response to their strong satisfaction levels, the vast majority of pharmacy directors expect to increase the capacity of their ADCs over the next three years.
