The 2012 results from PP&P’s annual Going Green survey of hospital pharmacy waste practices elucidates the recent trends in the use of waste management vendors and consulting services available in the marketplace. Given the complexity of regulations governing pharmaceutical waste practices, there has been a steady increase in facilities working with consultants to implement improved programs for managing these waste streams. Some facilities are also investigating newly available and more sophisticated approaches, although the use of a simple container system for waste management and disposal remains the most common approach.
