CPOE use continues to soar in popularity, realizing over 300% growth since 2007. Interestingly, small facilities outpaced large facilities in CPOE adoption this year. Nonetheless, large facilities still use CPOE most often, with 79% of 400+ bed hospitals using this important ordering technology. An equally encouraging nine out of 10 hospitals without CPOE plan to adopt a system. It is important to note that rolling out CPOE system-wide continues to be a daunting endeavor, with only 13% of facilities transmitting all of their orders through the CPOE system.
