Despite a previous trend of facilities adding waste expenditures to their budgets, 2011 saw a decrease in hospitals taking this approach. Notably, larger facilities are much more likely to include waste costs in their operating budget: 40% of 400+ bed facilities do so, while just 26% of 1-100 bed facilities include this as a line item.
