As hospitals recognize the potential revenue increases and improvements in patient care that can result from running a successful outpatient pharmacy, more facilities have begun strategizing to implement or expand outpatient pharmacy services. Whether the goal is to improve employee benefits, prevent readmissions, or capture 340B prescription volume, a well-thought-out outpatient pharmacy plan may improve both patient care and a hospital’s financial bottom line. In 2012, the largest facilities and hospitals in urban areas were the most likely to plan increases in outpatient services.
