Drug Diversion Study Results

Wolters Kluwer Health

The State of Drug Diversion 2023 Report from Wolters Kluwer Heath examines drug diversion programs from the view of healthcare executives, pharmacists, and drug diversion specialists. Despite 98% of healthcare executives agreeing that drug diversion occurs in hospitals, nearly four in five health executives (79%) believe that most drug diversion goes undetected. And two-thirds of survey respondents say they are either not confident or only somewhat confident in their organization’s drug diversion program’s effectiveness. The report also examines the extent of the drug diversion issue in hospitals and its impact on the quality of care, as well as how drug diversion detection technology has evolved to include artificial intelligence/machine learning. Further, it explores how advanced technologies improve confidence in diversion detection and actions taken by hospital leaders to prioritize their drug diversion programs.
